5 Things I Learned About Myself this Year

My birthday was this past Saturday! It was definitely one of my favorites. I spent it taking yoga with the #MCGcommunity, with brunching my besties, and going on date night with my incredible boyfriend. I'm so grateful to my family, besties, boyfriend, and wonderful people in my life for making my day so special.

I feel like I got closer to my entrepreneurial dreams. Some dreams (being an NBA dancer, traveling the US for choreography, and teaching at a boutique fitness studio) came to a close, but that made more room for other dreams to take flight.

Here are a few things I learned about myself this past year. Maybe you can relate?

1. Be unapologetically myself no matter what.

The only person who has to like me is me. If I like me, I'm doing a pretty good job. I might not be for everyone, but that's OK. I'm still going to show up 100% authentically myself because, for one, faking it takes too much effort, and two, it might inspire someone else to do the same. I'm going to wear what makes me feel beautiful. I'm going to run my business in a way that works for me. I'm going to overshare with my friends, but not on social media. I'm going to continue to work on myself in order to grow.

2. Ready is a lie.

Point, blank, period. There's not much to this one. If I want something done, I just have to do it. As a dancer AND a virgo, that doesn't ALWAYS come naturally to me, but we make it happen. Start before you're ready. Small efforts add up over time. Done is better than perfect.

3. Confidence is something I constantly practice.

The more I achieve the goals I set for myself, the more confident I am. Creating a couple hundred reels, check. Maid of honor speech, check. Dancing in front of thousands of people, check. Leading a digital course, check. Leading thousands of fitness classes, check. But here's the thing, if I don't continue to show up for myself, for my loved ones, and for my business, no one will. It's totally up to me! That is so satisfying to me. Now that I've shown up for myself, I know it's my purpose in life to help other women feel more confident about themselves.

4. The Comparison Trap is Real

I've learned to limit my late night doom scrolling by placing the Kindle app directly next to IG. Glennon Doyle said it best, "if you are scrolling and feeling jealous of other people's lives remember that you're actually feeling jealous of their feeds. Not their lives. Their lives are pretty much like yours. Also unclench your jaw. Kay byeeeeee."

5. Self love is necessary.

It's not all about hustling, grinding, losing sleep, and giving up 24/7 of your time to think about your business(es). That's so 2019. I know I tend to run myself into the ground, but I now I know that is not cute. There's magic in doing something that makes your heart happy. I love reading a romance novel, stretching to a 15-minute youtube video, taking a bath, watching reality TV, going for a walk, taking a dance class, going on date night, or having a girls night to help me feel more like myself.

What have you learned about yourself this past year?
